How
A strong mental game
The path is the destination
The Foundations
Well-Being is like the seat on a bicycle: you could technically ride without it, but it’s not very comfortable or a great long-term strategy. Off-field problems stunt growth and detract from optimal performance; well-being provides the necessary platform for both.
A performer’s life is a constant cycle between Performance and Growth. The ones who reach their potential are those who use mental strategies to perform consistently at the peak of their abilities and continually improve their game.
The Mental Competencies
Areas performers must develop to realize their full potential
Wheel of Performance
Wheel of Growth
- Attention is the “currency of performance.” The best performers effectively direct their focus, rapidly shift attention, and control distractions.
- Motivation to accomplish the task at hand is a prerequisite for peak performance, and can be strengthened through various techniques.
- Self-Belief to execute at the peak of your abilities can be both a by-product of other competencies, and also reinforced directly.
- Emotional Regulation is the ability to intentionally choose behavior despite strong emotions, and is a higher predictor of success in performance and life than raw talent.
- Self-Awareness drives choice. Choice drives progress. Learn to recognize, understand, and work with your thoughts for quality preparation and effective performance.
- Commitment based on personal values guides you in consistently doing what’s necessary to accomplish your goals, even when motivation dips.
- Growth Mindset is the belief that hard work and effective strategies increase talent, and is a significant reason why some performers continue to improve while others do not.
- Resilience is choosing to keep moving forward despite setbacks like injuries, dips in form, tough losses, or personal adversity away from the field.
